Enterprise demonstrates economic strength

ENTERPRISE, Ala. – The City of Enterprise is ranked 75th best Micropolitan Statistical Area in the nation for 2009 while holding on to the second place ranking in the State of Alabama for the second year in a row.

The Enterprise area moved up four spots from 79th in the nation for 2008 because of its rapid and consistent growth in both population size and quality, according to economy research company, Policom Corp.

“The Council and I are extremely honored to be noted in the top 15% of the nation’s micropolitian areas,” said City of Enterprise Mayor Kenneth W. Boswell. “We have always strived for a high standard of living for our citizens who live and work in the Enterprise area.”

The City of Enterprise was also recognized as the second strongest micropolitian area out of the 13 in Alabama. The City is only one of two micros in the State that have consistently seen improvements over the past five years.

“Despite the condition of our Nation’s economy, the City of Enterprise has continued to build a progressive economy while improving the quality of life for our citizens,” said Mayor Boswell.

The City of Enterprise also saw an optimistic decline in unemployment rates for April of 2009. Coffee County dropped to 6.2% from the 7.1% it had shown in previous months. Coffee County has continued to have the third lowest unemployment rate in the State of Alabama. The State’s unemployment rate is holding steady at 9%. Madison County is at 5.9% making it the second lowest and the first lowest being Shelby County at 5.8%.

“I believe this is a positive movement towards stabilizing our economy and it is my hope that we will see the market slowly turn the corner and move into an upward progression,” said Mayor Boswell. “In the mean time, the City of Enterprise will continue to be The City of Progress.”
